It's so important to parents that their kids be happy. We worry over their diaper rash when they are babies. We fret over their owies when they are toddlers. We answer their undending questions when they are four (until our finite patience is depleted). We wipe their tears over their first school-related woes. We cry tears of anger when they are picked on by mean-hearted bullies. We hope with all our hearts that their first crushes won't also become their first heartbreaks.
If their grades are high, we applaud and hope they aren't taking things too seriously. If their grades are low, we worry that they are underestimating their abilities. We hate to see them sell themselves short.
Sadly, they have no clue how much of our lives we spend just trying to help them be happy. There may never be clues to this one. There is just a sudden blinding flash of inspiration and enlightenment that comes when we become grandparents and they begin to worry over diaper rash and fret over owies and wipe away tears. Then they understand something they hadn't before, just as we did when we became parents.
Isn't life awesome?

Ana has a little diaper rash right now...
I found your blog and will now be looking regularly.
Hm, I want to say something else, but nothing comes to mind.
